A Series of Dialogues on Pathways to Mitigate National Debt

Why has the growing #nationaldebt become a concern for Namibian workers? What strategies should be implemented to address this issue?

As part of the civil society's mandate to hold the government accountable and tackle policy issues, a series of dialogues on Pathways to Mitigate Debt for Namibia was held. These discussions aimed to reflect on the implications of debt for labor rights and development, share experiences, and develop coordinated strategies to address the rising concerns over the #debt situation in #Namibia.

Key highlights of the discussions:

  • The Namibian government should explore alternative revenue collection methods and increase investments in public expenditures.
  • Civil society must monitor, engage, and follow up on the government's commitment to reduce debt, particularly to pay off the Euro bond by 29 October 2025.
  • Civil society should advocate for debt transparency, accountability, and a proper legal framework to regulate debt.
  • Promotion of peer learning at regional, national, and international levels to boost capacity in managing national debt.
