Social Protection for the Informal Economy in Namibia: Options to Extend Coverage

In collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Namibia, the Forum for Experts on Social Protection (FESP) and the UNAM Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences held an interactive public dialogue titled Social Protection for the Informal Economy in Namibia: Options to Extend Coverage. The public dialogue took place in April 2023 in Windhoek.

The public dialogue aimed to deliberate on issues relating to Social Protection for Namibia’s Informal economy. Even though Namibia is one of the countries in Southern Africa, along with South Africa and Botswana, with much more comprehensive social protection systems. The significance of the informal economy in Namibia cannot be ignored, as it provides
livelihoods and incomes for a large population of our country, most of whom are self-employed, of which more than half are women. The informal economy is the means of
survival for many Namibians.
